Spain’s state-owned TVE is planning to strengthen Hesperica, its recently-created natural history unit, in order to compete with the international majors. The network will place emphasis on wildlife and flora shows about Spain and Latin America. The director of Hesperica, Borja Cardelus, explained: ‘We want to foster the creation of a Hispanic brand to compete with BBC, National Geographic and Discovery Channel, and to divulge the image of Spanish and Latin American nature in the broadest sense, not only from the ecological point of view, but also from anthropological and cultural sides.’ David Del Valle
