Bellut fills a void at ZDF; Farren takes over 'Timewatch'; Brannan gets with TechTV

German pubcaster ZDF has filled the void created when former program director Markus Schächter was elected as its head in March. Thomas Bellut, the current head of domestic politics in ZDF’s news programming division, has been appointed program director.

John Farren will join the BBC’s History Unit as editor of ‘Timewatch’ in January 2003. Farren, formerly an executive producer at Granada Television, currently works for the Scottish Media Group.

San Francisco, U.S.-based TechTV announced the appointment of Greg Brannan to senior VP of programming. Brannan was formerly responsible for programming at E! Entertainment Television and Style networks. He will assume his new responsibilities on December 16.

Scott McGraw has been hired as the executive vice president of national ad sales for Discovery Networks U.S. McGraw is leaving his post as executive VP, network sports sales and marketing at CBS Television. He will now be reporting to his former CBS colleague, Joe Abruzzese, who was recently appointed president, advertising sales (as reported in RealScreen Plus October 24, 2002).

Robert Thirkell, creative director for BBC Business, announced his intention to leave the BBC at the end of the year to start a TV production company. He plans to continue producing programs for BBC Television. Thirkell joined the BBC in 1975.
