Sara Ramsden has left her position as head of contemporary factual at U.K broadcaster Channel 4 to become controller of British Sky Broadcasting’s entertainment channel, Sky One.

Ramsden, who takes up her new post in mid-March, was with C4 for nine years, previously commissioning in the areas of science, education and, most recently, factual entertainment. ‘I’ve reached the phase in my career where I’m ready to take on my own channel,’ she says.

Ramsden says she hasn’t yet formulated specific plans for the channel, but will work toward strengthening its identity. ‘It’s a pretty strong channel already, but I think it still has some places to go,’ she explains. ‘We’re going to be building on that young male demographic.’

Despite Ramsden’s roots in serious factual fare, don’t expect to see much on Sky One. ‘Not in the conventional documentary sense,’ she notes. ‘But, there’s already some good celebrity docs and we’ll be building on those.’
