As a famous puppet once said, ‘It’s not easy being green.’ But it certainly can be profitable.

Though MIPCOM will be awash with green programming, most of it will give viewers the urge to smother themselves with compost. Wasted! is not one of those shows. Part game show, part home makeover, the series swoops in to unsuspecting households and challenges their owners to become more green using reasonable approaches that viewers can try themselves. The series’ Eco-Calculator works out the home’s carbon or eco footprint before and after, and offers participants a chance at real cash should they follow the advice of the show’s experts and make the required changes.

Real environmental progress is only going to happen when consumers realize it’s cheaper and easier to be green than not. Beyond being enormously entertaining, it’s this sort of series that will likely have the greatest impact on viewers. That’s a win-win equation, as they say.
