MIPCOM Picks: The Perfect Vagina

In The Perfect Vagina, viewers follow one author who explores the surgical underworld of vaginoplasty for herself to find out why women mutilate themselves in the name of beauty.
October 7, 2008

According to a recent survey, 67% of women in the UK think they have ugly vaginas – and now there is something they can do about it. Vaginoplasty has become one of the fastest-growing areas of plastic surgery in Britain, with the number of vaginal cosmetic operations performed almost tripling last year.
In The Perfect Vagina, viewers follow one author who explores this surgical underworld for herself to find out why women mutilate themselves in the name of beauty. She’ll also examine how men and women view that particular area of interest.
Despite the title, this is a really interesting film. In fact, while viewers might be led to expect a sensational and voyeuristic peek into the naughty bits of the British nation, what they’re actually offered is a well-considered and emotional look at our culture, our views on sexuality and our hang-ups. It’s recommended watching. Partners: North One Television (London) for Channel 4, distributed through All3Media (London)
Length: 60 minutes
Rights available: Worldwide television
