You know ShineReveille International’s catalog of shows – they’re the ones that get everyone talking around the water cooler. Think programs like The Biggest Loser and American Gladiators. Realscreen had a catch-up with John Pollak, SVP of ShineReveille International (pictured), to find out what’s new with the mega-distrib.

How many hours of unscripted programming do you have in your current catalog?

Over 2000 hours.

What is your goal for the rest of this year in terms of the distribution of unscripted/reality series?

To have as many of our titles licensed as possible. We pride ourselves on distributing the highest-end content in both the US and UK, including shows like The Biggest Loser, The Moment Of Truth, The Family and new shows like Desperate Measures and Howie Do It.

Which territories are you especially focused on selling into? Perhaps a market that’s been especially challenging to crack?

We’re focused on selling into all territories, especially as we have bolstered our sales team and opened a UK office. But the toughest market has always been Japan, and we are determined to sell shows there.

Are there any types of unscripted shows that you’re not interested in? Either because you feel the particular sub-genre won’t sell, or it just doesn’t jibe with your existing catalog?

No. If it’s good, we can sell it.

With MIP winding down, what’s been your most memorable/surreal MIP experience to date, and how many times have you attended the market?

The most memorable moments are always when we have a brand new format that we unveil here at the market. Watching the momentum and excitement build over the work and having buyers come to us to hear this ‘great new format.’ It’s a rush and a high that never gets old. And this is my eighth [time at MIP].
