Jeremy Dear is head of development for Pioneer Productions, the UK prodco behind programs such as How the Earth Was Made, Raging Planet and Inside the Living Body. Recently, Dear took a moment to tell realscreen a few things people wouldn’t know about him, including how working in the television industry led him to buy a bizarre pet.

1. I started in the BBC as a secretary.

2. I once paid a Sardinian farmer £30 for two donkeys for a commercial shoot. I thought I was renting them – in fact I had bought them.

3. I speak Italian with a Roman (and foul-mouthed) accent.
