UK indie production house Zig Zag and reality powerhouse Mark Burnett Productions are teaming up on a new reality adventure series for Fox.

6ix places two teams on an island, with each being unaware that the other is there. Gradually they grow to become aware of each other’s presence, with the trick being that both teams are actually linked to each other, in a ‘six degrees of separation’ style – hence, the title.

Danny Fenton, managing director for Zig Zag Productions, says he and head of talent Ben Paul conceived of the format, and it was originally greenlit by Fox Broadcasting’s president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell in 2007, subject to casting. From there, adventure reality king Mark Burnett got wind of the concept.

‘Mark Burnett heard about the project, liked it and offered to team up with Zig Zag on developing the idea further, with his obvious skills for big reality shows,’ says Fenton.

Comparisons are being made to the ABC smash Lost, and while Fenton admits to a similarity, he says that 6ix will be very much its own show.

‘It was part inspired by Lost but the format for the show has moved on massively since then with the input of the creative team at Mark Burnett Productions,’ he says. As the creative is still being worked on, dates for commencing production and transmission have not yet been locked down.
