MIPCOM Picks 2009

Yes, the recession may be looming large. But while conventional wisdom says that TV viewers want to 'get away from it all' when plunked in front of the tube, this year's crop of MIPCOM Picks submissions ran the gamut from socially and environmentally conscious docs to poignant and provocative series, with a fair mix of beautifully shot 'window on the world' fare as well. While this year’s assortment of MIPCOM Picks, as chosen by realscreen‘s editorial staff, features the odd monkey and human bird within its cast of characters, that’s not to say that the majority of clips submitted from around the world erred on the side of light or escapist. Yes, the recession may be looming large, but while conventional wisdom says that TV viewers want to ‘get away from it all’ when plunked in front of the tube, this year’s crop of submissions ran the gamut from socially conscious docs to poignant and provocative series, with a fair mix of beautifully shot ‘window on the world’ fare as well.
