Gena McCarthy, senior VP of development and production at Discovery Channel, has resigned from the cabler. McCarthy had been an exec producer on such Discovery staples as Ice Road Truckers, Dirty Jobs and MythBusters. Most recently, upon returning to Discovery as VP of development and current programming in 2008 after a stint at WE tv, she had brought shows such as Time Warp to the channel. There’s no word yet on where she’s headed next. At present, Elli Hakami, VP program development for the West Coast, is the acting head of development.
