Calgary-based media company Shaw Communications has won court approval for its bid to take over Canwest Global’s broadcasting properties. The decision came in the wake of a rival bid launched by Toronto-based Catalyst Capital Group, which was backed by members of Canwest founding family the Aspers and investment bank Goldman Sachs, co-owners of Canwest’s specialty channels. The Globe and Mail reports that according to sources close to Goldman Sachs and Catalyst, both are looking at other legal options that may be available to dispute the decision.
