Hollywood director Sam Mendes (American Beauty) was so moved by the story of Afghanistan’s national cricket team he decided to back a documentary on the rise of the team. Out of the Ashes, from director Timothy Albone, charts the team’s early success and its run to qualify for the World Cup. The doc will premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and will screen on BBC’s ‘Storyville.’
