After angry phone calls and threats to protest theatrical screenings of Louie Psihoyos’ The Cove, three theaters have bowed to the pressure and canceled the screenings. Fifty-five journalists, academics and film directors in Japan have retaliated with a protest letter stating their shock at the intimidation tactics being used and expressed the need to air the documentary film about Taiji’s dolphin hunt in order to create a wider discussion about the matter.
