A. Smith & Co. teams up with Japanese prodco for co-venture

L.A.-based A. Smith & Co. Productions (Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares) has teamed up with Japanese commercial production company Taiyo Kikaku Co., Ltd. for a co-venture that will see the companies produce content for TV, the Web and other media.

L.A.-based A. Smith & Co. Productions (Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares) has teamed up with Japanese commercial production company Taiyo Kikaku Co., Ltd. for a co-venture that will see the companies produce content for TV, the Web and other media. Through the agreement, A. Smith & Co. will adapt Taiyo Kikaku’s formats in the US and other regions, while Taiyo Kikaku will strategically adapt A. Smith & Co.’s formats to work in Japan and other Asian territories. Also, both prodcos will co-produce and jointly develop new properties, as well as develop and distribute formats and properties from third parties. In conjunction with the venture, Taiyo Kikaku will be opening a US office to be headed up by Satoshi Akutsu. Both prodcos began working together on the series I Survived A Japanese Game Show, which aired on ABC and was shot completely in Japan.
