July 9, 2010

Toronto-based producer/distributor Canamedia has been acquired by educational video company Distribution Access. Canamedia, founded in 1979 by Les and Jane Harris, has a catalog of more than 1,500 titles as well as current production projects. Les Harris, president of Canamedia, will be added to Canamedia’s new parent company’s board of directors, and will be named Distribution Access’ senior producer as part of the deal. Harris says the arrangement ‘will position us to serve the growing demand for digital programming on a wide variety of platforms while focusing production efforts toward the needs of specialty and niche program providers… Producers and clients of Canamedia will receive the benefit of a stronger and better positioned company as we move forward together.’ Distribution Access president Doug Connolly says the acquisition provides his company with ‘significant new content for our digital applications along with a solid foundation for growing our global broadcast distribution division.’
