UK superindie All3Media has completed the acquisition of factual producer Optomen, its New York production office and its joint venture with Gordon Ramsay, One Potato Two Potato. All3Media will wholly own the companies. The deal is reportedly worth £40 million, or approximately US$62 million. Optomen has been the production force behind several factual food hits, including Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, The Naked Chef with Jamie Oliver, and Two Fat Ladies with Clarissa Dickson Wright and Jennifer Paterson. One Potato Two Potato co-produces the U.S. versions of Ramsay’s food hits, including Kitchen Nightmares, Hell’s Kitchen and MasterChef. In a statement announcing the deal, All3Media chief executive Steve Morrison called Optomen ‘a jewel in the UK’s TV crown,’ and praised its ability to produce ‘long running, award winning and genre defining TV series one after another…And with One Potato, Two Potato they have created a brilliant vehicle to make the most out of the unstoppable force of nature that is Gordon Ramsay. We look forward to helping Optomen and One Potato Two Potato grow in Britain, America and around the world.’
‘The television landscape has changed dramatically and now feels like the right time to benefit from the scale and experience of All3Media,’ said Optomen managing director Pat Llewellyn of the deal. Gordon Ramsay added: ‘Twenty years of working in kitchens has taught me that success is always a team effort, and with the help of the team at All3Media I’m confident we can take things to the next level and soon reach three potato, four potato and more.’
