Vimeo has announced the top five finalists for nine categories, including documentary, in its first Vimeo Awards competition. Finalists, hailing from 12 countries from around the world, were culled from 6,500 entries by an esteemed list of judges including documentary judges Doug Pray, Lucy Walker and Morgan Spurlock, and for the other categories, M.I.A., David Lynch, Roman Coppola, and Ted Hope among others. In the documentary category, the finalists are: Henrik Hansen for Shinya Kimura @ Chabott Engineering; Eliot Rausch and Lukas Korver/ Phos Pictures for Pennies Heart; Temujin Doran/Studiocanoe for Facts About Projection; The Light Surgeons for Schlimazeltov! and another project from Eliot Rausch and Lukas Korver/Phos Pictures, Last Minutes with Oden.
‘It was a true pleasure to serve on this jury and feel refreshed and inspired by the creative energy of the work submitted,’ said judge Lucy Walker, director of such acclaimed docs as Waste Land, Devil’s Playground and Countdown to Zero. ‘Short-form documentary work is evolving and this feels like exactly where it’s happening and where it’s at.’ Screenings of the finalist videos will take place at the Vimeo Festival in New York on October 8-9, with winners to be announced on October 9.
