Jeff Gaspin, chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment since July of 2009, has announced his resignation from the post. Following much press speculation, in a memo sent to staff on Monday, Gaspin said that incoming NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke ‘wants to move in a different direction and given the scope of my current responsibilities, we could not agree on an appropriate role for me in the new company. Therefore I will be departing NBC Universal a short time after the merger.’ Gaspin has been with NBC Universal for a combined total of 19 years; prior to his most recent post, he was president-COO of NBC Universal Television Group, and past roles have included president of NBC Universal Cable and Digital Content, president of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment and in 2002, president of Bravo. The rest of the executive structure for NBC Universal following its pending merger in the new year with Comcast is expected to be announced later in the week.
