‘The Oath’ takes doc award at the Gotham Independent Film Awards

IFP's Gotham Independent Film Awards were given out in a New York City awards ceremony Monday night, hosted by actors Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci.

IFP’s Gotham Independent Film Awards were given out in a New York City awards ceremony Monday night, hosted by actors Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci. The winner of the best documentary honor was Laura Poitras’ The Oath, which examines al-Qaida through the eyes of two brothers-in-law in Yemen. Also nominated in the category were Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s 12th and Delaware, Charles Ferguson’s Inside Job, Martin Scorsese’s Public Speaking and Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Ilisa Barbash’ Sweetgrass. Davis Guggenheim’s Waiting for ‘Superman’ won the ceremony’s inaugural Festival Genius Audience Award.
