“Marwencol” director wins Film Independent grants

Marwencol director Jeff Malmberg received two Film Independent's filmmaker grant awards, the Aveeno Truer Than Fiction award and the inaugural Jameson Find Your Audience Award.

Among the four winners of the Film Independent’s filmmaker grant awards, announced at the Spirit Awards filmmaker grant and nominee brunch, Marwencol director Jeff Malmberg received both the Aveeno Truer Than Fiction award winner and the inaugural Jameson Find Your Audience Award. For the Truer Than Fiction Award, which is given to an emerging director of non-fiction features, Malmberg wins a $25,000 unrestricted grant from Aveeno, and for the Jameson Find Your Audience Award, he wins a $50,000 marketing and distribution grant, funded by Jameson Irish Whiskey.
Other winners include Littlerock‘s Mike Ott, who won the Acura Someone to Watch Award, and Anish Savjani, producer of Meek’s Cutoff, who received the Piaget Producers Award.
The 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards take place on February 26.
