The NAACP Image Awards nominees were announced recently, with PBS, HBO and History among the non-fiction entertainment nominees.

For the Outstanding Documentary (Theatrical or Television) category, the nominees are PBS’ For Love of Liberty: The Story of America’s Black Patriots, directed by Frank Martin;  Metaphor Films’ Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel, directed by Brigitte Berman;  the Spike Lee-directed If God is Willing and the Creek Don’t Rise, which aired on HBO;  Davis Guggenheim’s  Waiting for “Superman”, from Paramount Vantage; and POV’s William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe, directed by Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler.

History and PBS made the nominee list in the Outstanding Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special category, with the Nutopia-produced America: The Story of Us (Part 4) and Filling the Gap.

Up for Outstanding Reality Series are American Idol, America’s Next Top Model, Dancing with the Stars, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and BET Network’s Sunday Best.

The 42nd NAACP Image Awards takes place on March 4.
