Studio Lambert (Undercover Boss, Fairy Jobmother) and Nutopia (America: the Story of Us) have announced a production partnership that will see the two prodcos team up to produce U.S. versions of Nutopia’s UK-created formats.

Nutopia, launched two years ago by Jane Root, burst onto the scene with the aforementioned U.S. historical “mega-doc” that aired initially on History and became the network’s most-watched special ever. The prodco is now moving into the format realm, with its most recent project being the Channel 4 celeb biography show The House That Made Me. Transcontinental prodco Studio Lambert was founded by Stephen Lambert and is headed up in the U.S. by Eli Holzman.

“Mega-docs were our first priority when we started, but now we’re also building up our format business,” said Root in a statement, “and I felt it was time to find the right U.S. production partner. I’ve known Stephen Lambert for many years and have been hugely impressed by his track record in taking U.K. formats like Wife Swap and Undercover Boss and making them into big hits. Partnering with his company was our first choice.”

“We are committed to bringing some of the most successful and daring formats in the U.K. to the States,” added Lambert. “Jane is one of the cleverest and most experienced executives working in television on both sides of the Atlantic. Eli and I look forward to working with her and her team.”
