The latest from the prodco behind Pineapple Dance Studios opens a window on the world of eccentric dog owners, the pooches they love and the people who get to tend to both parties.

They say it’s a dog’s life, and a new series from London’s Pulse Films might prove that old maxim.

A Different Breed, premiering this week on Sky1 in the UK, is being brought to MIPTV by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE). The 8 x 1 hour series examines the world of the pampered pooch, by looking at the dog owners who will do anything and spare no expense for their four-legged friends, the operators of the grooming salons and kennels that get to look after the spoiled spaniels, and of course, the dogs themselves.

Although it largely fits the bill as a docusoap, the series will also feature scripted voice-overs designed to reveal what the dogs may be thinking at a particular point in the action.

“We’re delighted to continue our strong relationship with the team at Pulse Films through the acquisition of their exciting new series,” said Richard Life, head of acquisitions and coproductions, ITV Studios Global Entertainment. “International broadcasters and audiences alike have come to know and love the uniquely fabulous style of Pineapple Dance Studios and Louie Spence’s Showbusiness and we expect A Different Breed to be in similarly hot demand.”
