Sundance shines in Spain

Rainbow Media’s Sundance Channel Global is to launch on Movistar Imagenio, Telefónica’s Spanish IPTV service and one of the country’s largest TV operators, effective June 1.

The move represents the ninth territory launch for the brand, which combines the Sundance Channel TV offering with authenticated mobile streaming.

“The reason we’re getting traction is that people like the brand,” said Rainbow Media Global SVP and GM Harold Gronenthal in an interview with realscreen. “The great thing about Sundance is that we’re bringing unique content to all of these territories, so we’ll be bringing content that’s never aired in Spain.”

“Spain represents a significant launch for Sundance Channel Global and is a logical next step in our progression throughout Europe,” said Rainbow Media’s global senior VP for international distribution Edward Palluth in a statement.

Sundance Channel Global will be available as part of Movistar Imagenio’s family package. In addition, Movistar Imagenio will offer both standard and HD versions of Sundance Channel on-demand.

“Sundance Channel Global provides our subscribers a unique opportunity to consume high-quality, compelling original programming on a variety of platforms,” said Telefónica’s audiovisual services manager Ignacio Fernandez-Vega.
