National Geographic Channel will see Steve Burns, EVP of Global Content, depart the network in the next few weeks.

The Board is actively looking for his successor and in the meantime, Michael Cascio, SVP Production, will serve as interim head of global programming.

In a memo from NGC president Steve Schiffman to NGC staff, he said, “We certainly will miss Steve’s significant contributions, but rest assured we will not miss a beat.”

It will be “business as usual” at the network, with Bridget Hunnicutt leading the global development team, Heather Moran spearheading the  global scheduling/strategy, and Char Serwa overseeing global production.

Burns’ contributions included Restrepo, a doc from Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington on one year with a U.S. platoon in Afghanistan, which was nominated for the net’s first Oscar.

“I would be remiss not to take this opportunity to acknowledge that Steve has
been key in establishing new benchmarks for success that we will be building on as we move forward,” said Schiffman.

“As for Steve’s next step, he is undecided yet as to his next adventure, but I am confident his formidable creative talents will remain a force within the industry,” he added.
