U.S. cable network Spike TV has hired Chris Rantamaki, most recently Discovery Channel’s VP of production, for the new position of VP for original series.

Rantamaki will be based in Spike’s California offices and reports to Sharon Levy, exec VP of original series and animation.

He is charged with overseeing the development of non-scripted series that will further broaden and expand Spike TV’s audience.

Levy praised Rantamaki’s “extensive experience in the reality television world.” He joins the Spike team after four years at the Discovery Channel, where he worked on a number of shows including Auction Kings, The Colony, Howe & Howe Tech, Gang Wars and Expedition Alaska.
