Joint venture cable channel OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has poached Lifetime Networks exec Scott Garner (pictured) to be its senior VP for scheduling and acquisitions.

Garner will report to John MacDonald, OWN’s chief operating officer and exec VP for programming and digital, and will be responsible for overseeing strategic planning and scheduling of the Discovery- and Oprah Winfrey-controlled JV channel, along with off-network, first-run and feature acquisitions.

Most recently, Garner was senior VP for planning, scheduling and acquisitions at Lifetime Networks. In the role, he was responsible for linear and non-linear program scheduling and acquisitions for Lifetime, Lifetime Real Women, and Lifetime’s video-on-demand services. He also led the Lifetime Movie Network.

“Scott’s extensive experience at Lifetime and Disney makes him a tremendous addition to OWN,” said MacDonald. “He is a terrific strategic thinker, and his thoughtful approach to OWN’s overall programming will be invaluable in today’s dynamic media environment.”

Prior to joining Lifetime, Garner served at Disney Channel Worldwide, where he held various positions and moved up the ranks to become senior VP of programming. He was involved in the planning, scheduling and promoting of programming including Hannah Montana and the original movie franchise High School Musical.
