TLC revealed the broadcast premiere of Off the Rez, a film from Jonathan Hock and executive produced by Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, set to air on May 14.

Off the Rez follows Shoni Schimmel, a Umatilla Indian, as she tries to become the first person from her tribe to get a college basketball scholarship. The film documents Shoni and her mother/coach Ceci fighting for her hoop dreams, which are threatened after her family leaves the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

The film recently made its world debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.

“It’s been an honor working with Shoni and her family to tell this story. Their journey in Off the Rez exemplifies the American dream, showing how the human spirit can overcome any challenge through hard work and persistence,” said Mark Consuelos, who also narrates the film.

Off the Rez is a Hock Films Production, presented by TLC in association with Milojo Productions.
