International distributor ZDF Enterprises is coproducing a €1.6 million doc on the men below the Titanic’s deck with Irish prodco Tile Films and Gebrüder Beetz Filmproduktion.

Saving the Titanic (1 x 90 minutes and 2 x 50 minutes) will be available to mark the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking on April 14, 2012.

The doc uses eyewitness accounts to tell the story of six engineers who were below the Titanic’s deck.

The production budget is more than €1.6 million and will include large-scale re-enactments and CGI to bring to life the last hours of the Titanic.

The doc is scheduled for production in Dublin during summer 2011 and will be available for delivery by January 2012 at the latest.

The Irish/German coproduction is being funded by ZDF Enterprises, ARTE, RTÉ, Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and The Irish Film Board.
