Food Network has commissioned a series that tasks chefs with extreme challenges, such as swimming across a lake to get their ingredients.

The eight-part series, Extreme Chef, is hosted by Marsh Mokhtari and premieres on June 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. In each episode, three culinary pros are asked to complete three difficult tasks, such as extracting ingredients from a block of ice, in order to win US$10,000 and the title of ‘Extreme Chef.’

Other challenges include having competitors prepare a perfect block party in a torrential downpour or cook a meal on a deserted island.

Judges include Next Iron Chef judge Simon Madjumdar, food journalist Josh Ozersky, Next Iron Chef finalist Marco Canora and food writer Candice Kumai.

Extreme Chef is produced by Smart Dog/Valencia Productions.
