Endemol’s chief commercial officer Tom Toumazis (pictured) has left the transatlantic production giant to join European media group Mecom as its new CEO.

Toumazis, who has been with Endemol since January 2009, is expected to take on the new role in August this year. At that time, Mecom’s executive chairman Stephen Davidson will become non-executive chairman.

Davidson said of Toumazis: “His extensive experience in all aspects of the traditional and new media business and his leadership qualities equip him ideally to take the helm at Mecom and help ensure we realize our full potential.”

In a statement, Toumazis added: “Mecom has an impressive European footprint, which combines powerful national and local print media positions with rapidly growing online and new media operations.

“It has considerable potential to develop its multi-media platforms and build strong digital revenues and I am excited to be given the opportunity to lead the company.”

Prior to joining Endemol, Toumazis was executive VP and MD of Disney-ABC-ESPN Television.
