Royal Television Society calls for entries for Craft & Design Awards

The Royal Television Society's call for entries for its Craft & Design Awards 2010/11 closes on September 1.

The Royal Television Society’s Craft & Design Awards has opened its call for entries for this year’s ceremony, recognizing the skills and processes within program production, from digital effects to editing.

Nigel Pickard, group director for family entertainment and drama at Zodiak Media Group, is chairing this year’s awards. The judging panels will be drawn from leading broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, S4C, Channel 5 and Sky.

All entries must have been first transmitted in the UK between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011. The closing date for entries is September 1, 2011. The Awards Dinner will be held on November 21, 2011 at The Savoy in London.

The award categories are as follows:

Graphic design, recognizing achievement in trails and packaging, program content sequences and titles;

Makeup design, recognizing achievement in all areas of makeup including hair styling and wigs in categories of drama and entertainment and non-drama productions;

Costume design, recognizing achievement in drama and entertainment and non–drama productions;

Production design, recognizing achievement in drama and entertainment and non–drama productions;

Effects, recognizing achievement from any area of program making in categories of digital effects, special effects and picture enhancement;

Photography, recognizing achievement in drama and documentary/factual and non-drama productions (note that the Photography Awards are designed to recognize location based single camera work);

Lighting and Multi-camera, recognizing achievement in lighting for multi-camera and multi-camera work (the Multi-camera Awards are designed to recognize those who work in studio based or OB multi-camera programming across all genres);

Sound, recognizing achievement in drama and entertainment and non-drama productions (note that these awards recognize the whole sound team and both recording supervisor and mixing supervisor should be named on the entry form);

Tape and Film Editing, recognizing achievement in drama, documentary/factual and entertainment and situation comedy (note that this award is designed to recognize skills in tape editing in multi-camera studio/OB programming);

Music, recognizing achievement in original title music and original score (note that the titles or score must be specially commissioned for a specific program).

Design and Craft Innovation Awards are given at the discretion of the jury chairs and recognize outstanding achievement from any area of program-making, demonstrating innovative use of technology or techniques.

The Judges’ Award recognizes outstanding contribution to television craft and design within the criteria year.

Lastly, the Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding achievement of creative craft or design.
