Male-skewing U.S. cable net Spike TV has set a July airdate for Bar Rescue, a series in which restaurant consultant Jon Taffer bids to revive the fortunes of struggling bars.

The series was first unveiled as a development project in May last year, under the working title On The Rocks, and is a 10 x 60-minute series produced by 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks US.

Premiering July 17 at 10 p.m. EST, the show will see Taffer visit one bar per week in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia, delving into “every business facet of running a bar, from creating a profitable drink/food menu, to music selection, to managing crowds as well as dealing with disgruntled employees.”

The exec producers are JD Roth and Todd A. Nelson (The Biggest Loser, MasterChef, Flying Wild Alaska). The project is overseen for Spike by Sharon Levy, exec VP for original series and animation, and Tim Duffy, senior VP of original programming.
