Discovery Communications has moved Denise Contis from VP of production for TLC to the new role of senior VP of production and development for Discovery Channel.

Contis will be based in Discovery’s LA office and will report to Nancy Daniels, Discovery Channel exec VP of production and development.

The new role will see Contis charged with executing programming strategies and coordinating with indie producers. She will also work closely within the network with a variety of internal teams, including production management, legal and business affairs, finance, international networks, communications, online, advertising and promotion.

Contis’s role will cover series, and her appointment comes in addition to Discovery Channel’s existing LA-based senior VP of development and production Simon Andreae, who is focused primarily on development on the West Coast and production of the network’s ambitious series Curiosity. He reports to Discovery Channel’s outgoing president and general manager Clark Bunting.

Daniels described Contis as “one of the hardest working, most tenacious, collaborative and creative people I’ve worked with.”

At TLC, Contis was responsible for titles such as Sarah Palin’s Alaska, Say Yes To The Dress and Police Women.
