German distributors Telepool and Bavaria Film International are merging their sales operations under the banner of a new joint venture company, Global Screen.

The new company will launch on January 1, 2012, and will handle worldwide distribution of programming from the catalogues of both firms, while also seeking to pick up original titles for distribution. The merger creates one of the biggest distributors in Europe.

The new Munich-based firm will be run by Telepool chief exec Thomas Weymar and Bavaria CEO Rolf Moser. In a statement, Moser said: “Global Screen will continue the success story of its two partners, who together bring some 100 years of experience in international sales.”

Weymar added: “With this sales team and our professional networks, we are large enough to establish ourselves in the competitive program market, and yet small enough to be able to serve our customers individually.”

Among the documentaries Telepool will be offering at MIPCOM next month are Crime Scene: Rainforest, Bulb Fiction, Healing, After the Silence, The Heart of Jenin, Faces of Islam and Luciano Pavarotti; while docs in the Bavaria library include Jane’s Journey, In Berlin, The Wondrous World of Laundry, Crossing The Bridge, The Big Sellout and Africa United.
