TVF International director Leila Monks (pictured) is leaving the London-based distributor after six years to take on a new role at UK-based indie Zig Zag Productions.
Monks will join Zig Zag on November 7, taking on the newly-created position of VP of commercial and current production, a role straddling both the business and creative areas of Zig Zag and Zig Zag USA, realscreen can reveal.
She will be charged with maximizing the indie’s revenue on the commercial side across a number of areas including coproduction, advertiser-funded programming, distribution and digital, working closely with Zig Zag commercial consultant Ben Barratt.
Based in London, she will report to Zig Zag Productions CEO and executive chairman Danny Fenton, and to chief operating officer Kevin Utton.
The news comes after Zig Zag earlier this year linked with TVF for a distribution agreement. “We did a couple of shows with her and they did really well,” Fenton told realscreen. “She exceeded our expectations and I thought she’d be a really good asset for us.”
He added that while part of Monks’ role would include working across sales, the hire was not a move to set up an in-house distribution division. “What we’ve done in the past is, where we can, do stuff directly [with international broadcasters], and in other places do stuff with distributors.
“I would imagine that with Leila’s experience, we will build on that, and where we do work with distributors, obviously she will help us get the best deal. What’s appealing is that she’s experienced, but she’s still hungry, and I want to tap into that hunger.”
During her tenure with TVF International, part of the TVF Media group, Monks worked her way up from a sales exec role to head of the distribution arm. She recently executive produced the royal wedding one-off William and Kate: A Royal Love Story, which aired on numerous nets internationally including TLC in the U.S.
