Christopher Cassel, a showrunner, director and writer for Manhattan-based production company KPI, has formed his own prodco, Castle Pictures.

Cassel had been with KPI for 13 years. While there, he’d worked on such productions as the Emmy-winning Rome: Engineering an Empire, The Dark Ages, The White House: Behind Closed Doors and Clash of the Gods for History; The Uprising for Animal Planet and Apocalypse How? for Discovery. Most recently, Cassel had worked as supervising producer and writer on Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero, a mini-series exec produced by Steven Spielberg, for Discovery Channel and Science.

The new company is aiming to produce  “epic, immersive and transformational stories borne out of exploration, travel, history, the natural world, engineering, sports and every day American life.” Of the three projects announced as being in development, two are scripted and one is non-fiction. Built Planet is a doc that traces human history via the evolution of architecture and engineering.

Cassel is president and creative director of the new venture. For more information, visit www.castlepix.com.
