The Cuban Hat project, in which funds are raised for noteworthy documentary pitches via the “passing of the hat,” is launching an online pitching competition for doc makers across Canada, in association with Quebec documentary market Doc Circuit Montreal.

Canadian doc makers should submit three-minute pitches made via webcam or camcorder to the project team via www.cubanhat.tv by October 17. The pitches will be posted on the site, where members of the public will be able to vote for and support their favorite projects via donations.

Five finalists will be selected to present their proposals to the public at the end of the Doc Circuit Montreal market on November 16. A jury of industry professionals will comment on the five pitches which will be broadcast live through a webcast allowing the international community to participate in selecting the winner.

Entries will have the chance to win cash donations, post-production services and access to international doc funders.
