James Marsh’s Project Nim (pictured), Clio Barnard’s The Arbor, Asif Kapadia’s Senna and Steve James’s The Interrupters are among the docs vying for the Outstanding Achievement award at the 5th Annual Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking.

The docs feature on a six-strong shortlist, with Patricio Guzmán’s Nostalgia for the Light and Leonard Retel Helmrich’s Position Among the Stars also nominated.

Across the Cinema Eye’s 10 feature-length doc categories, seven films have received four nominations each, with Tristan Patterson’s Dragonslayer and Danfung Dennis’ Hell and Back Again both nominated for a quartet of prizes alongside Arbor, Nostalgia, Position and Senna.

In the short doc category, the previously reported 11 strong shortlist has been whittled down to five nominees: Tim Hetherington’s Diary, Yuri Ancarani’s Il Capo (The Chief), Davina Pardo’s Minka, Jakub Stozek’s Out of Reach (Poza Zasiegiem) and Andy Taylor Smith’s This Chair is Not Me.

In all, 33 films from 12 countries are vying for gongs. The winners will be announced on January 11 at New York City’s Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.
