TLC International to pass 100 million household mark

Launches in Finland and Portugal in early November, combined with a previously announced Lat Am launch and more expansion in Africa, will give the global lifestyle and entertainment network reach into more than 100 million households.

Discovery Networks International (DNI) is continuing its roll-out of global entertainment and lifestyle network TLC with early November launches slated for Finland and Portugal.

The November 1 launch in Finland and the November 2 launch in Portugal, combined with previously announced launches planned for Latin America on November 1 and other recent roll-outs into Denmark (October 6) and a further 46 countries across Africa (October 14), give TLC a reach into more than 100 million households outside of the U.S.

The network expanded into Africa via its partnership with Multichoice, the biggest pay-TV operator in sub-Saharan Africa. TLC is also available in South Africa through Top TV.

The Latin American expansion comes from the rebranding of the Discovery Travel and Living channel as the Travel and Living Channel, or TLC. Previously, the TLC brand was only available in Lat Am via the niche pay-TV channel TLC HD. As previously reported by realscreen, the new channel will hit 26 million households upon its November launch.
