7th Art Releasing has acquired world distribution rights to Jordan Bahat’s Holocaust documentary Jealous of the Birds (pictured), which will have its New York premiere at DOC NYC this Sunday.

The film looks at the estimated 15,000 Holocaust survivors that remained in Germany after the Second World War, asking the question, “How could they stay?”

Bahat interviews survivors, their children and other Germans, exploring what it meant for victims to live among perpetrators and for children of those perpetrators to deal with the guilt borne from the crimes of their parents.

Following DOC NYC, 7th Art said it plans to continue the film’s efforts on the festival circuit with additional screenings around the country and a specialized release.

Recent 7th Art releases have included The Swell Season, Art & Copy, 45365, Love During Wartime and The First Movie.
