Lauren Zalaznick (pictured), chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media, is to provide the opening keynote at the 2012 Realscreen Summit, the non-fiction industry’s flagship event.
Her keynote, entitled “A Case Study: The Conscience of Television (revisited): Why we ‘need’ TV,” will look at how various economic, demographic, and life-stage factors dictate what viewers ‘need’ from television at different stages in their lives, examining the causes that change consumers’ underlying viewing motivations.
The speech will kick off proceedings at 9:45 am EST on January 30 at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel, launching the 14th edition of the annual event, which this year already has more than 800 delegates signed up to attend.
Zalaznick, who started her career in media as an independent feature film producer, was appointed to the chairman role in January of this year, when Comcast and GE completed a multi-billion dollar merger.
In the role, she oversees Bravo Media, Oxygen Media, Style, mun2, Sprout and Telemundo. In addition, she runs the digital properties DailyCandy and Swirl, Fandango, iVillage, Television Without Pity, and the Integrated Media Group, which includes the company-wide initiatives Green is Universal, Healthy at NBCU, Hispanics at NBCU and Women at NBCU.
The agenda for the 2012 Realscreen Summit is online here. The event runs from January 29-February 1.
