UK-headquartered Firecracker Films has brought on Dan Snook, former SVP of development for 3 Ball Productions, to take the same post at its LA office.
Snook joined the Big Fat Gypsy Weddings prodco at the beginning of this month. While at 3 Ball, Snook developed such series as ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition; MTV’s I Used to be Fat; and Hair Battle Spectacular for Oxygen.
“He developed some excellent shows at 3 Ball that felt like they could have been Firecracker shows but also has huge experience in other areas such as shiny floor shows, presenter-led shows and lots of network experience,” Firecracker CEO Mark Soldinger told realscreen. “Dan joins us at an exciting time and will be instrumental in helping us expand our brand in the U.S., focusing on network commissions as well as new cable relationships.”
“From my point of view Firecracker Films has a body of work that is not only impressive for its entertainment value, but there is a level or artistry in how the stories are told that doesn’t always exist in factual television,” said Snook. “That commitment to form and content is a combination I find really appealing.”
The prodco is currently working on two commissions for National Geographic Channel in the U.S. One commission is a 10-part docuseries follows a father and son team that runs the International Military Antiques company in New Jersey; while the other, an eight-part series looking at New York’s “Little Russia” at Brighton Beach, is slated to air in fall of 2012.
