ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE), the distribution arm of the German pubcaster, has promoted Ralf Rückauer (pictured) to head of sales, overseeing all full-length programming. The appointment is effective this month.

The 41-year-old was previously sales manager for German-speaking territories and Central and Eastern Europe. A ZDF employee in1999, he worked in the channel’s “Das kleine Fernsehspiel” department, heading up the format development lab “quantum” before moving to ZDF Enterprises and becoming project manager for distribution and investments, with a focus on documentaries.

Prior to that, he was a junior creative producer at Gemini/Colon Filmproduktion in Cologne. “Ralf Rückauer is a long-serving employee who knows the sales portfolio inside out,” said Fred Burcksen, ZDFE VP of sales, merchandising and coproductions, in a statement. “We are confident that with him at the helm of TV program sales, we are going to be best placed to address the challenges and opportunities of the future.

The news comes after Juergen Steimer, ZDFE senior VP of acquisitions and coproductions, last month announced his retirement, as previously reported.
