National Geographic Channel (NGC) has boosted its U.S. development team, hiring LA-based programming and development execs Alan Eyres (pictured left) and J-T Ladt (right), and New York-based director of production and development Lynn Sadofsky.

The hires come after NGC president Howard T. Owens told realscreen the network was planning “a big expansion into the West Coast” earlier this month, and ahead of the start of the Realscreen Summit in Washington DC this Sunday (January 29).

Eyres will serve as senior VP of programming and development and head of the LA office, while Ladt will serve as VP of programming and development.

In NYC, meanwhile, Lynn Sadofsky will serve as executive producer and director of production and development. She joins NYC-based director of development J.C. Mills, whose appointment was revealed by realscreen in December.

The new arrivals come after Hamish Mykura was in December named executive VP and head of international content for National Geographic Channels International, in a dual role that also sees him named as the London head of global development for NGC.

The new team will be tasked with developing series and event specials for National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild, working alongside the network’s Washington DC-based development team.

Eyres and Ladt join NGC in newly created positions in the LA office, which CEO David Lyle originally spearheaded.  Eyres will report to exec VP of programming Michael Cascio, while Ladt reports to Eyres, the latter of whom joins on February 1.

In NYC, Sadofsky and Mills report to Kim Woodard, VP of production and development and head of NGC’s New York office.

“Our expansion of the global development team shows our commitment to attracting creativity and strengthening our production community partnerships, whether that’s Hollywood, Manhattan or London,” said Owens.  “Eyres, Ladt, Sadofsky, Mills and Mykrua will be bringing their drive, energy, focus and openness to develop standout programming that resonates with our viewers.”

Eyres joins from Discovery Communications, where he most recently served as acting VP with responsibilities across development and production in the West Coast office, working on shows including Unchained Reaction, Jesus Conspiracies and Human Planet.

Ladt, meanwhile, joins from Renegade 83, where he served as co-head of development. During his tenure, he was responsible for developing and setting up reality projects across multiple networks, including Discovery, Spike, VH1, Style, G4, Syfy and TLC.

Sadofsky was most recently the director of development and executive producer for Planet Green and Discovery Fit & Health, developing and producing series including Facing Trauma, Secretly Pregnant and The Fabulous Beekman Boys, while Mills joined from Zodiak Rights.

“With these additions to our development team, we are poised to grow our business exponentially in the New Year,” said Michael Cascio, NGC exec VP of programming. “Working alongside the team in DC, we now have the best executives in the business in place to develop franchise series that reflect our passion for exploration and adventure.”
