Discovery Communications has formed a digital strategy and emerging business division, naming Gabe Vehovsky (pictured) as its EVP.

Vehovsky, most recently Discovery Communications EVP of digital media strategy and client solutions, will now lead a team designed as “part think tank and part product and partnership development,” according to the network. The team will be tasked with managing various new digital initiatives, in collaboration with Discovery’s leadership.

In his previous role, Vehovsky developed ad strategies to monetize the company’s digital portfolio, including HowStuffWorks.com, Discovery.com and TLC.com.

Vehovsky came to Discovery through its acquisition of HowStuffWorks.com, a how-to site. Prior to that he was EVP of strategy and research for the site and was a research analyst for The Convex Group, the media technology company that sold the website to Discovery.

In addition to taking the reins of the company’s emerging business division, he’ll continue to work with Discovery’s ad sales team and clients.
