Travel Channel hires Hurwitz to head digital

Former Oprah.com and Bravo Digital exec Marietta Hurwitz (pictured) will oversee the cable network's digital content and strategy as senior VP and general manager of digital.

Travel Channel has appointed Marietta Hurwitz (pictured) to oversee the brand’s digital channels.

As senior VP and general manager of digital, she will be responsible for establishing digital content and strategy as the U.S. channel expands its multiplatform offerings. She will be based between the company’s Chevy Chase and New York offices.

Prior to joining Travel Channel, Hurwitz was a digital media consultant working for several clients, including Ovation Network and the Bouley Test Kitchen for Chef David Bouley.

She was also senior VP and general manager of Oprah.com where she worked across talk show queen Oprah Winfrey’s various programs and media brands including OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Before that she was VP of digital marketing at Bravo Digital where she launched the web series Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen.

“Staying competitive in the digital industry, as well as continuing to be the travel expert for our viewers, are top priorities for Travel Channel,” said the network’s chief financial officer Shannon O’Neill in a statement. “Marietta’s strong background in digital marketing, content programming and strategy, mobile and business development makes her well positioned to lead current and future digital initiatives.”

TRAVEL CHANNEL NAMES MARIETTA HURWITZ

AS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF DIGITAL

TO LEAD NETWORK’S EXPANSION ACROSS DIGITAL PLATFORMS

CHEVY CHASE, MD (February 7, 2012) – Travel Channel today announced the appointment of Marietta Hurwitz to Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital.  In this role, she is charged with overseeing Travel Channel’s iconic brand across digital platforms as the network focuses on multiple-platform expansion.  Hurwitz will be responsible for establishing digital content and strategy aimed at keeping the network in the forefront as an entertaining, informative and reliable source for all travel-related products and services.  Hurwitz will report to Shannon O’Neill, chief financial officer for the network, and will work out of the Chevy Chase and New York offices.

Before joining Travel Channel, Hurwitz was a digital media consultant working on a variety of diverse projects for clients including Ovation Network, and the Bouley Test Kitchen for Chef David Bouley.  Previously, Hurwitz served as senior vice president and general manager of Oprah.com, where she worked closely with all of the company entities including The Oprah Winfrey Show, O, The Oprah Magazine, Oprah Radio and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network to establish a cohesive and compelling user experience to drive cross platform user engagement.  Previously, Hurwitz was vice president of digital marketing and content at Bravo Digital.  There, she extended the Bravo brand and its entertainment offerings in the digital space including such signature shows as “Top Chef,” “Real Housewives of Orange County” and “Project Runway.”  She also launched “Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen” in its original format as a web series.  Earlier, she served as director of Triotv.com and digital marketing, where she created and executed all digital marketing campaigns and initiatives for the pop culture network TRIO and launched TRIO Plus, the network’s broadband website.

Hurwitz holds a Master of Communications Management from Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University.  Additionally, she is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in New York.
