Ovation picks up “Mamma Mia Story”

Arts-focused U.S. net Ovation has signed a package deal with distributor ITV Global Entertainment for a slate of titles including the documentary ABBA: The Mamma Mia Story.

Arts-focused U.S. net Ovation has signed a package deal with distributor ITV Global Entertainment for a slate of titles including the documentary ABBA: The Mamma Mia Story.

The doc explores the global appeal of the musical-turned-feature film, and includes interviews with the stars of the movie, including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Julie Walters, along with clips from the movie and excerpts from the theatre show.

The network has also picked up 60-minute concert film Johnny Cash in San Quentin, which captures the iconic singer’s performance to inmates at the titular American prison.

“All of these titles work really well with our brand,” said Kris Slava, senior VP of programming for Ovation, adding of the ABBA film: “This is a documentary chock full of stars talking about one of the biggest, most delightful musicals of our time.”
