Distributor Zodiak Rights has acquired entertainment format Nation’s Brightest from German production company I&U TV Production.

Originally commissioned for ARD in Germany, this 60-minute format is a talent show billed as being “for everyone and anyone.” According to the distributor, “You don’t need to be able to dance or sing to succeed in this search; all you need is one amazing brain for a chance to win the title and a large cash prize.”

The format is locally titled Der kl├╝gste Deutsche and originally aired as 3 x 180-minutes, premiering on ARD last October and averaging 5.1 million viewers and a 16.5% share across the series.

The format deal follows Zodiak Rights’ acquisition of I&U’s format You’ve Got to be Kidding Me in 2011, which launched in Germany and resulted in two subsequent recommissions.

Zodiak Rights is showcasing the Nation’s Brightest format at MIPTV in Cannes and has worldwide rights excluding Germany.
