Chris Schmidt, who has worked at Powderhouse Productions as executive producer, writer, director and editor, is joining PBS’s science strand ‘NOVA’ as a senior producer.

Schmidt joins ‘NOVA’ on April 30, and will work alongside senior executive producer Paula S. Apsell. The hire is part of an expansion for the science strand, which is produced for PBS by WGBH Boston.

He is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and over the last 10 years has worked in various roles at Powderhouse Productions. Schmidt has produced and directed programs for Discovery Channel, History, National Geographic and PBS. In 2011, he executive produced the ‘NOVA’ mini-series Making Stuff and the special Hunting the Elements.

“Chris brings to ‘NOVA’ a proven track record of producing compelling and memorable television,” said Apsell, who also serves as director of the WGBH Science Unit and oversees on-air productions and initiatives beyond the broadcasts.
